Prayer Leaders Summon Believers for Solemn Assembly in D.C.

With a sense of urgency and by the prompting of God, the National Day of Prayer (NDOP) Task Force has called a solemn assembly in Washington, D.C. for October 3-7, 2012. Described as “a moment in time for God’s people to stand in the gap on behalf of all Americans,” the leaders of this gathering are inviting hundreds of like-minded believers to come to the nation’s Capitol to pray.

According to Dave Butts, chairman of America’s National Prayer Committee, “A unified gathering of several national prayer ministries is about to take place that may shape the course of history—and you have been summoned!”

This special prayer gathering will focus prayer on all the institutions of government within the D.C. area. The solemn assembly will also include outdoor corporate worship near the steps of the Capitol building and at the base of the Washington Monument.

Prayer Assignments

A variety of prayer assignments will be given to the participants, including all of the government office buildings that house Senators and Representatives, the Supreme Court, the White House, National Archives, Arlington Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the Pentagon, war memorials, and the Lincoln Memorial. It is described as being “not for the faint of heart,” as it will include walking to various locations regardless of the weather.

There will also be large group gatherings at the Sheraton Hotel, featuring speakers and prayer leaders that include Shirley Dobson, Tony Perkins, Dick Eastman, Paul Cedar, David Kubal, Negiel Bigpond, Vonette Bright, Dave Butts, Jeremy Story, and Bishop Harry Jackson.

Some of the partnering ministries include America’s National Prayer Committee, NDOP, International House of Prayer, The Call, Intercessors for America, Harvest Prayer Ministries, and the Family Research Council.

Just as Moses stood in the gap on behalf of Israel (Ex. 32, Ps. 106), prayer leaders believe the time is now for believers from across the country to gather in Washington, D.C. to pray for the nation. Find more information at summons2012.com.
