Expressing Faith through Love
“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Galatians 5:6Father, I thank You for Your Word and the theme of love, mercy, and forgiveness that is woven throughout its pages.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your ultimate example and expression of love in dying for me—the Righteous for the unrighteous—that I might be brought into the family of God. Holy Spirit, fill me with the love and compassion of Christ, I pray. (Pause and give thanks for the love of Jesus expressed through the cross. Ask for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit.)Forgive me, Father, for any way that I have harbored bitterness, unforgiveness, prejudice, or a judgmental spirit against brothers and sisters in Christ. (Pause and pray for those whom the Holy Spirit brings to mind. Choose to forgive them in Christ.)May my life and those in my church community be marked by love and forgiveness, Father, and may it begin with me. May we forgive others as we have been forgiven and do so deeply from the heart. (Pause and pray that love and forgiveness might increase in your faith community.)Father, Your Word says: “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God, whom he has not seen?” (nkjv). Remove insincerity, hatred, envy, and discord of all kinds, and replace all hatred and anger with the love and compassion of Christ! It is written: Love “always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” Teach Your Church to love, O God. It is written: “By this everyone will know that You are my disciples, if you love one another.” Teach us this way of living out the gospel. In Jesus’ mighty name, may we truly serve one another in love—each of us loving others as we love ourselves—and in so doing be strengthened in faith to do the same in the marketplaces of our lives. May our actions increasingly line up with the truth that we confess with our mouths. In all things, may we follow Your example, Lord Jesus, and walk as You walked, loving as You loved.O loving Savior, I ask these things in Your name. Amen.Psalm 86:5; 1 Peter 3:18; Colossians 3:13; Matthew 6:14-15; 1 John 4:20; 1 Corinthians 13:7; John 13:35; Galatians 5:13-14Taken from Pray the Word for Your Church (c) Tiece King, PrayerShop Publishing.
