PRAYER FOR YOUR CHURCH

Lord, I lift up the children and youth in my congregation to You. May the little ones remain humble examples of what we adults need to become in the kingdom. Let their conduct always be pure and right with reputations that show that they remember You, Creator God. Teach them to declare Your marvelous deeds. May they flee evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. (Matt 18:3-4; Prov. 20:11; Eccl. 12:1; Ps. 71:17; 2 Tim. 2:22)

An Idea for Prayer Champions

Summertime Fun!

Shake-up the weeknight prayer meeting this summer with a series of prayerwalks and some prayer evangelism. This is a great idea for involving church members who are not the sit-still-and-be-silent-as-other-people-pray-around-a-circle type. It is perfect for kinesthetic (active) learners and a wonderful opportunity for parents to disciple their children into a prayer. Here is what one church is trying this summer:

  • June: 1 session of training; 4 weeks of prayerwalking the community
  • July: 1 session of training; 3 weeks of “Free Lemonade! Free Prayer”
  • August: 4 weeks of “Free Lemonade! Free Prayer” Prayer Evangelism

Prayerwalk training:

Keep it simple and fun.  Use ready-to-go material at:

http://www.waymakers.org/_files/freshprayer/volume3/9-1Tim2-4pgs.pdf

Purchase prayer prompt guides for each participant:

http://www.waymakers.org/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=WPTAM

Prayerwalk teams:

  • Send out teams of 2 or 3 (if 4 or more on the team, walk in pairs)
  • Send teams in a different direction each week (north one week, south, and so on)
  • Specify a focus for each week: Business district, schools, parks, neighborhoods
  • Invite families to prayerwalk together
  • Always regroup at a preset time to debrief

Prayer Evangelism

“Talking to God about people (prayerwalking) before talking to people about God” (Ed Silvoso, Prayer Evangelism, Regal Books)

Why not go outside and set up a "Free Lemonade” stand (or another summer appropriate give-away). You may want to set itup in a busy area (outside a shopping center, etc (be sure to get permission). Offer lemonade and prayer for those who stop to get a drink. “Free Prayer” is an invitation to be prayed for; a brief, focused, non-religious-jargoned prayer. For information on how to set this up, go to:
