Early 20th century Presbyterian pastor Wilber Chapman once saw more than 1,300 people come to faith in Christ during a three-year period of time in his Bethany Street Presbyterian Church. He put that spiritual success solely on the shoulders of more than 200 men who were gathering each Sunday morning to pray that the Holy Spirit's power would fall on Chapman as he stepped into the pulpit to preach.

 
The Most Important Meeting of the Week? PDF Print E-mail

At Christ Community Church in Brazil, the church I attend, there is always a statement in the bulletin announcing the Wednesday night prayer meeting as “the most important meeting of the week.” Between 50 and 75 people out of a church of 450 regularly attend. Not bad by prayer meeting standards.

But some wonder why call it the most important meeting of the week? What makes it more important than the weekly worship service? As I pondered that question, I came up with four reasons:
